Licence checklist
Check the person and the pharmacy separately
Imagine a care page looks polished and mentions Cave Creek. You can find a badge, but not the full name of the person who would prescribe. What can you check?
Ask for the person's full name, profession and licence details. Ask for the pharmacy's full name too. Keep those answers beside the page you are reading.
Match the profession to its board
Fact
An MD is a medical doctor. Arizona's Medical Board provides a doctor search with licence records and public board orders.
For a doctor using the letters DO, Arizona has a separate board. Use that board's doctor search; the Medical Board's MD search does not cover DOs.
Within their training and Nursing Board permission, Arizona nurse practitioners can assess a patient's health and prescribe medicines, as of October 3, 2026.
Use the Nursing Board's links to check both the nursing licence and the nurse-practitioner certificate. The certificate is the board's record showing the nurse is qualified for that role.
A PA is a physician assistant. Arizona's PA board provides a separate search for that profession.
Check permission for your visit
A video visit is one way to receive telehealth: care given while you and the person treating you are apart.
Some people with a care licence from a different state may register with the relevant Arizona board to give remote care to patients here, as of October 3, 2026. This telehealth registration requires a licence without restrictions, insurance for claims about their care and compliance with Arizona care rules, among other requirements.
An out-of-state telehealth registration, by itself, gives no permission for in-person treatment in Arizona, as of October 3, 2026.
Naturopathic doctors are a separate type of doctor with their own Arizona licence and limits on which medicines they may prescribe. As of October 3, 2026, the Naturopathic Physicians Medical Board oversees that licence.
Ask the board for that profession to confirm permission to treat you in Arizona and to prescribe the exact medicine being offered. Give the board the full name of the person and the medicine.

Get the pharmacy name before payment
Arizona treats a pharmacist's licence and a pharmacy's permit as separate records, as of October 3, 2026.
Medicine sent into Arizona by a pharmacy based elsewhere requires that pharmacy to hold an Arizona permit, as of October 3, 2026. It must also have a current permit, or the equivalent permission, from the state where the pharmacy is located.
Holding a pharmacy permit alone does not establish that each custom medicine made there meets state and federal rules.
Use the Food and Drug Administration's state-pharmacy lookup page to find the board for each state. Ask each board to confirm the named pharmacy's permit.
For a custom medicine, ask the pharmacist which rule allows the ingredient to be used. Ask how the medicine meets the rules about making copies of medicines already sold. The first-check page explains those questions.
An empty record does not tell the whole story
Arizona restricts the board records available online, as of October 6, 2026. If a search shows no action taken by the board against a licence, that does not prove there has never been a complaint or action.
You can ask the board for more public records about the licence. Some complaint and investigation records cannot be shared. Records of board actions have limits on how long they appear online. Meeting notes and notices kept under public-meeting law have different rules and are not subject to those same limits.
Ask for any older public records of board actions and relevant meeting notes. Ask the board to explain which records it can share.
